Program
Option Studio: NEWtown – ARC3015
Name
Katerina Gloushenkova
Introduction
This studio was about creating new designs for experimental, ecological housing along Newtown Creek in Queens, New York. Climate Change is the single most important issue facing architects and urbanists today. This studio began with research into the history of experimental housing through the study of a series of precedents and then into the history of Queens and Newtown Creek. Students took an optional trip to New York City and tour historic and new housing projects, Newtown Creek and participated in a workshop with invited critics including architects, urbanists and individuals with expertise about both Queens and Newtown Creek. After the creation of a collective master plan each student worked individually on new housing designs for the site.
